(以下是此信的原文) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jonathan Buffett" <jonathanbuffett93@hotmail.com> To: <lawson_s@pacific.net.hk> Sent: Saturday, November 13, 2004 9:35 AM Subject: my statement Dear Steve > I will start with my story of getting into nearsightedness, and eventually my story of getting out of it. > I had perfect vision all my life until I was 10 1/2 yrs. old. during the middle of grade 5 I noticed my distance vision start to blur, this was during the winter when I was inside looking at things up close for long periods. The symptoms fadded away as the summer came and i started going outdoors more often. Then a year later the symptoms returned in grade 6, except this time they never went away. > I had a lot of headaches from being at school straining to see the board, and I told my mom that I needed glasses, but she didn't believe me because both my parents have perfect vision. Finally in grade 7 I told her I really needed to go to see the OD. Sure enough I was nearsighted, -1.25D nearsighted. > My nearsightedness gradually got worse over the next several months, and after doing a science fair project on the human eye, I began to wonder, why?......... why did this happen to me and can it be fixed? I went to the internet for answers. I researched in January of 2004 and began to use a +1.I used the +1 off and on from January to march to improve my vision from -1.5D to -1.25D, measured be my OD in April. > At the begin of April I got very serious with the plus lens and started wearing a +2 constantly and +3.25 when eating, and I do exactly the same right now. > My drive was seeing other people (especially kids my age) who had perfect vision, I wanted to have that and nothing was going to stop me. > At my last eye appointment on October 7th 2004, my eyes had improved from -1.25D to -0.50D. My OD was amazed and said he had never seen or heard of it before. He told me it would be interesting to see what happens in the next 6 months and he wants to see me in April 2005. He said it obviously works because the proof was evidence when he tested my eyes. > I have improved a bit more since then, bringing my vision form 20/25 to 20/20, and even some reading on the 20/15 line. > I think it takes a person with a lot of drive and motivation to be persistent and successful with the plus lens. Simply wearing a +1 for a week wont improve your vision, it takes time, effort and patients to be successful with the plus lens. > The bottom line is that my distance vision didn't start to improve until I started using the plus lens and I owe a big thanks to people like Otis Brown and Steve Leung who are fighting to make the plus lens "happen" and helping to save those who have a "fighting chance". They have a lot up against them and have to put up with a lot of crap. and may I add are doing a fine job. > > There is no harm with the plus lens, the harm is with that darned minus lens that causes stair-case myopia. And yet people would rather be legally blind than work to save their eyes. We spend so much time taking care of our teeth but what about are eyes?... > > Nobody ever got more nearsighted by wearing the plus lens, everybody got > more nearsighted my wearing the minus lens. > > A special thanks to Steve Leung for you are one of the few OD's who are > truly interested in "helping" rather than "hurting". > > Jonathan > |
